Homemade Latte Using Instant Coffee.

Whipped topping optional
We don't have a Starbucks where we live.  That's probably just as well since it costs an arm and a leg to get anything decent there.  My usual, if I'm visiting a city that has (several, which is usually the case, something like Tim Hortons here) Starbucks, is a vanilla soy latte.  I don't completely avoid dairy, but I don't drink milk, so having a soy latte costs even more at Starbucks.  I think Tim's does lattes now, but they don't offer soy milk (at least the locations here don't) so if I want a latte, I pretty much have to make it myself.

With that in mind, yesterday, I set out to find an easy recipe for homemade latte. After doing a few searches on the internet, I hit payload!  You don't need any fancy espresso machines or milk steamers. Just a saucepan, a kettle, and a whisk.

Here is the recipe I found (paraphrased):

Prepare the cup you will be using with 1 teaspoon of instant coffee, 1 teaspoon of sugar and a splash of boiling water from the kettle.

Optionally, you can add about half a teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra flavour.

Stir it up until the coffee and sugar is dissolved.

Heat some soy milk in the saucepan and when it's hot enough, whisk it vigorously by rolling the whisk between your palms, until the top of the milk becomes foamy.

Pour about 1 part boiling water into the cup to about 2 parts of hot soy milk.

Enjoy!

In the Physical world

A little over a month ago, I was searching online for local French as a second language classes for my husband, who is British and living with me in French Canada central.  My search for a free class for him was unsuccessful, but I did stumble across a free online High School level physics course.  I decided to go for it for two reasons:

  1. When I was in High School, I had little to no interest in anything I did in class, and all those formulas...ugh!
  2. Regardless of the first reason, I am pretty interested in how the universe works, and as an adult, I think my attention span is somewhat better now than it was back in High School.
I'm now 5 weeks into the course with March Break coming up, and I'm doing pretty well so far.  Of course, the fact that my husband studied University level Physics helps.  His explanations get a bit advanced for me at times, but at least I'm confident that I know what he's talking about!

We'll see how far along I get before I threaten to give up.  I still have a full time job and I sometimes struggle to meet each Sunday's deadline for my quizzes or assignments.

Next week's module, Newton's Laws.

Cheers,
Melly

Alliterations ftw

I am, of course, referring to the title I've chosen for the blog.  I was going to be Melly's Musings, but the URL was already taken.  Ah well, such is life.  The most important part of this blog is of course that the title matches the URL.

Whatever...

Catch you later.
